My Poem
Well, the first poem I had chosen was Snow Day by Billy Collins but because it was so long, I didn't think that I would have enough time to memorize it. So my second choice was Football by Louis Jenkins. This poem instantly cought my eye because of it's title. I'm a sports guy and I love football so i'm thinking this is the perfect poem. When I read it I was kind of confused because it wasn't all about football. It had a few lines about football but the real meaning was life isn't perfect, but you can make things happen because anything is possible. I can convey the meaning of the poem in his kind of satirical way by moving my voice around and making it interesting to listen to. Also maybe a few hand gestures here and there to emphasize what i'm talking about.

Poems
Part 1.
1. John Lennon by, Mary Jo Salter
2. Lions by, Sandra McPherson
3. Prison Song by, Alan Dugan
4. Rock and Hawk by, Robinson Jeffers
5. Skunk Hour by, Robert Lowell
Part 2.
I enjoyed Lions and John Lennon out of these five poems. They both were very interesting and the Lions one had some satire in it. The other three I did not like because they were all kind of either boring or depressing or both. I'm most interested in the Lions poem because it was interesting and funny and I would have to choose that one out of the 5 poems above. I connected with it well because of the humor.
Part 3.
The easiest part of the criteria for me would probably be the physical presence, and the evidence of understanding because I believe I have the ability to do these things well. The hard things for me will be the voice and articulation and the level of difficulty. These will be hard because I sometimes don't talk loud enough and i'm really terrible at memorizing things.
Part 4.
Writ on the Steps of Puerto Rican Harlem by Gregory Corso.
I would have to say that this was a pretty successful performance because of the difficulty of the poem and the way he acted things out with his hands and body motions.
Forgetfulness by Billy Collins.
I really enjoyed this poem because the reciter recited it very well and it was satirical. It was a very successful performance.
Part 5.
Well, I'm not the biggest fan of poetry, but I like this site. I'm kind of excited for the competition because I don't know what it will be like. I am going to do Snow Day by, Billy Collins.
