In this book, the author uses several terms that I don't understand. Here are a few of them I was hoping someone could help me with. What does the author mean when he says tar-water? like literally water with tar in it? Or boot-jack? Or when Pip says hes going to his "garret" bedroom?
Tar-Water was a mixture of tar and water stirred together, left alone to sit, and then seperated for medicinal purposes. The water part was digested and was said to cure just about every disease. A Bootjack is literally a device that catches the heel of a boot for easy removal of the boot. And lastly, a garret is an attic, and a bad one at that.
